Bangles

Here, married women wear bangles. Muslim women wear gold bangles, and Hindu women wear white and red bangles. For special occasions, women wear all sorts of beautiful bangles. It's kind of kind our wedding ring -- if you don't wear your ring, it's perceived as impolite towards your husband. The other day I took off my bangles to have a shower, and after the shower, I forgot to put them back on again. And then I ran to a neighbor's house to drop off some sewing with a lady tailor. Her mother-in-law met me in the courtyard with a direct rebuke, "Where are your bangles?" I had a friend there who came to my rescue by explaining how I usually do wear bangles!

Maia loves my bangles. If we go out and she has no other toys, she gets to play with my bangles . . (which I guess is not culturally correct, as I've been corrected about that too .. ) So the other day I bought her some of her own. They are a hit.
